Swinney on what ref said on Boulware's suplex penalty: "He tackled him too hard" |
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney spoke to the media following Clemson's 54-0 rout of Syracuse and shared some insight on what the referees told him when Boulware suplexed a Syracuse wide receiver and got a penalty.
"He just said he tackled him too hard," Swinney said. "I know it looked bad. I get that. I was just trying to make the point their guy was running toward the goal line, and Ben was behind him. He is just trying to get him on the ground, and he was having a hard time. He just got a hold of him, but that's a judgment call. You get some of those, but I think it just looked bad. That is what I was trying to say. He has got him what is he supposed to do. Hey, can I just roll you over here? They guy wasn't going down. I can see if you were in the backfield, and it was kind of one of those deals where you got him bottled up, but that guy was humming. It was a judgment call. It was a big call at that moment. It gave them some big momentum, but I think we overcame it." Boulware said that the WWE federation might call him for a career in wrestling. "They'll (WWE) probably contact me. He was trying to get an extra yard, and I'm behind him, and I'm not just going to let him go," Boulware said. "I've got to get him down some way, and I'm behind him, so I'm going to try to pull him back. It happened to be that way. It's football. It is what it is. He was trying to go forward, and I'm behind him, so there was no other way that I could tackle him other try to pull him back. It's football. The way I tackled him, people are going to freak out, but he's trying to get an extra yard, and I'm trying not to allow him to get an extra yard."
