Swinney on Pinckney: "Gonna be a heck of a player" |
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney held his press conference on Tuesday to preview the upcoming 2016 Fiesta Bowl featuring #2 Clemson and #3 Ohio State.
Swinney was asked by a reporter about his team's depth on the defensive line and Swinney shared that he has a hidden gem stashed away in freshman defensive lineman Nyles Pinckney. "Hey, a guy like Nyles Pinckney," Swinney said. "Man, he has gotten scout team player of the week like four or five times already. This guy is gonna be a heck of a player for us. We were almost that close [points with his hand] to playing him this year but really glad we didn't. I think he is going to be even more prepared because of his power hour experience this fall and having to watch a little bit." This is another telling example of how Clemson is reloading each year on their interior lines. During his senior year in high school in 2015, Pinckney had 72 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, four sacks, six caused fumbles, three recovered fumbles, two blocked punts, and two defensive touchdowns.
