Swinney on Mike Williams: "He's going to be an incredible pro" |
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney was in attendance at the Senior Bowl practice on Tuesday and was asked about his former playmaker
Mike Williams that will be playing his sophomore season for the Chargers in 2018.
Williams suffered a back injury in rookie minicamp and didn't play until week six and had only 11 catches on 23 targets for 95 yards in his rookie season. This is NFL football," Swinney said via NFL.com, " and there’s always a transition. But make no mistake; he’s going to be an incredible pro and an impact player for the Chargers.” Swinney knows that Williams lost valuable time when he didn't get to work with Phillip Rivers while he was injured. “All of that timing and chemistry and the relationship — that stuff is developed in the offseason,” Swinney said. “It’s developed in the OTAs and he didn’t get a lot of that, especially when he got hurt in camp.” Williams totaled 177 receptions for 2,727 yards and 21 touchdowns in 1,871 snaps over 42 games (30 starts) during his time in Clemson. He ranks third in school history in receiving touchdowns, fourth in receiving yards and fifth in receptions.
