Swinney gives injury updates for Bryant, Edmond |
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney held his weekly press conference and discussed several topics on his team including injury updates on the status of starting quarterback
Kelly Bryant and senior cornerback
Marcus Edmond.
"We are in a great spot right now," Swinney said about team's overall health. "As good as we could be at this point. There is not a team out there going into a game, some teams nine, we are going into eight, that doesn't have something going on within their team. From a playing standpoint, I think we are in a really good spot for this point of the season." Swinney confirmed his earlier statements that Bryant is progressing well from his ankle injury. "Kelly is getting better every single day," Swinney said. "He looked great yesterday. He will continue to progress all through the week and be ready to roll. It just kind of comes with the territory." Swinney shared that Deshaun Watson played with a hurt shoulder for several games last season. "You know Deshaun (Watson) last year played at least three games with a bad shoulder," Swinney said. "Right before half he got hit and came out with shoulder and didn't play the whole second half. I think it was the Syracuse game. He didn't play at all the entire second half. His shoulder was in bad shape. He went about three weeks after that he didn't practice until Wednesday. Just soreness and then he would get a shot in his shoulder and go play the game. Then kind of start back over. Sore on Sunday, Sore on Monday, did a little more on Tuesday and cut him loose on Wednesday. There are just certain things you just got to kind of play through as you go through this game, but eventually, it gets better." Swinney said that Edmond is looking really good at practice. "Marcus Edmond is back in practice," Swinney said. "That's been really good. He's in green which means you are back in practice but we still got you on a little bit limited capacity. He hasn't been at practice. He's been in yellow which means you are just with the strength coaches and trainers the whole time and doing rehab type stuff. He's in green and he has to just work through some of that soreness, but he is much, much better and I think a lot closer to getting back fulltime. He's a guy that I think can really help us. Hopefully, we can get him back for the stretch run here.
