Swinney Monday practice update on Trevor Lawrence

by -

Clemson freshman starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence returned to practice on Monday, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said on his radio show.

Lawrence was knocked out of Saturday's game by the second quarter after taking an awkward hit to the head and neck area. Clemson co-offensive coordinator Jeff Scott said earlier on Monday the injury was more of a neck strain than a concussion as previously-feared.

"(Trevor) took every snap tonight and looked great and feels great," Swinney said. "That's a big blessing for us. His neck is not quite as sore. He was pretty sore on Sunday but everything checked out OK. He was back out there and took all the reps. Looked good."

Swinney also liked what he saw out of redshirt freshman Chase Brice, who is coming off of a career-high in snaps.

"Chase obviously has a different swagger to him now," said Swinney. "Got a different hop in his step. Ben Batson, this will be a big week for him. It was really until Wednesday (last week) until he was like, 'Oh crap. I might have to play?' He's now had since last Wednesday. There's a little different mindset for him. We had him in Power Hour and now we have to have him in the QB meetings and have him getting down the gameplan and ready to play...We'll pull it all together."

Swinney says injuries shouldn't keep any of his players out on Saturday on the road at Wake Forest (3:30, ESPN).

"Just thankful for the health we do have. We have a few guys banged up here and there after five games," Swinney said, "but nobody that I think will not be able to play on Saturday."

Lawrence ranks 10th nationally in pass efficiency (177.2) and 15th in yards per attempt (9.24) through action in five career games.
