Report: Texans 'hope' for accelerated timeline on Watson injury rehab |
The Houston Texans are looking for history to repeat when it comes to
Deshaun Watson's rehab process.
Watson suffered a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee during a non-contact move during practice Thursday. His 2017 season is over, but the Texans hope he will be in prime condition by the start of the 2018 campaign. A report by ESPN insider Adam Schefter said Sunday that Watson is "expected to be sidelined for 8-9 months." That said, they "hope," per Schefter, the former Clemson star's comeback is more like when he tore his left knee ACL in 2014, returning to football activities within five months. Deshaun Watson’s expected to be sidelined 8-9 months, per source, though Watson returned from ACL tear last time in 5 months; hope for same. Watson is tied for the league-lead in touchdown passes (19), throwing for 1,699 yards. He was named AFC offensive player of the month for October, setting the NFL rookie record for TD passes in a month (16), with 1,171 passing yards over four games. Only three QBs in NFL history passed for more TDs in a calendar month, joining an elite club with Tom Brady (20, October 2007), Peyton Manning (19, November 2004, December 2013) and Tony Romo (17, November 2007).
