Former Clemson standout Mackensie Alexander was placed on the Minnesota Vikings injured reserve with a groin injury ending his rookie season in 2016.

According to the Minneapolis Star, Alexander underwent groin surgery to repair the injury in the offseason and should be full go for Viking's offseason program. Alexander had five tackles in 13 NFL games in his rookie season and played only 68 total snaps. He will be in line to compete for the team's starting nickel job with the loss of Captain Munnerlyn in free agency.

The Vikings drafted Alexander in the 2nd round (54th overall) in the 2016 NFL draft. He did not give up a touchdown to the receiver he was assigned to cover over his last 23 games at Clemson. He was a second-team All-American and first-team All-ACC in 2015.
