as the former Clemson third baseman is off to a good start in his minor league career.

"He's well-spoken. He's educated," said Renegades manager Jared Sandberg, "and on the field, he's the real deal. I think you're going to look at a first round pick and he's got the tools to go with it. He's got the arm, the glove and the bat. The power potential is there ... he's going to be a fun player to watch for a long time."

Shaffer made his professional debut on July 23, getting his first hit, a single, in his second at-bat. He played five innings at third base in that game as the Renegades look to ease him back into playing shape. His college season at Clemson ended on June 3.

In his second game, Shaffer was the designated hitter and drove in two runs in a key McNamara Division win at Staten Island.
