NIT EXPERIMENTAL RULES
The NIT will utilize the following experimental rules during all Tournament games.

1. Reset of Shot Clock (Rules 2-11 and 9-11): The shot clock shall remain the same as when play was interrupted or reset to 20 seconds, whichever is greater, at any time any of the
following occurs:
a. A personal foul by the defense which results in no free throws and the ball is inbounded in the front court.
b. Any technical foul assessed against the defense and the ball is inbounded in the front court.
c. The game is stopped for a bleeding player or blood on a uniform and the ball is inbounded in the front court.
Except as specifically set forth above, all the shot provisions of Rules 2-11 and 9-11 shall
remain in full force and effect.

2. Elimination of bonus free throws and resetting of team fouls (Rule 8-2 and Penalty 10-1-c): There shall be no bonus free throws awarded and team fouls shall be reset to zero
as follows:
a. Each team is limited to a team total of four personal and/or technical fouls (excluding administrative technical fouls) during each 10-minute segment of each half.
b. The first 10-minute segment of each half shall begin when the ball first becomes live to begin the half and shall end when the game clock reads 10:00. The second segment will begin when the game clock reads 9:59 and ends when the half ends.
c. When a team has reached the 4-foul limitation, all successive personal/technical fouls (excluding administrative technical fouls) will be penalized by two free throw attempts.
d. Each team’s foul total shall be reset to zero when any 10-minute segment has ended.
e. The rules regarding penalties for fouls in the act of shooting, flagrant fouls, or technical fouls shall not be affected by this experimental rule and shall always result in two free throws unless the rules say specifically otherwise.
f. All rules regarding resumption of play remain in full force and effect.
g. In any overtime period, when a team has reached a total of three personal and/or technical fouls (excluding administrative technical fouls), all successive personal/technical fouls will be penalized by two free throw attempts.
Other than specifically set forth above, the provisions of Penalty 10-1 remain in full force and effect.
