Monte Lee’s Tigers look to get back on track in more than one way at home this weekend versus Duke (21-16, 8-10).
Last weekend’s action has Clemson (25-12, 11-7 ACC) in a tight battle for the lead in the Atlantic Division and a tight race for a regional bid. The Tigers sit two games back of Louisville (29-8, 13-5) at the top, which they have a head-to-head tiebreaker over. They meet second-place NC State (30-8, 12-6) in Raleigh in mid-May and will look to fight off new challenger Florida State (22-13, 10-8), who swept them last weekend. Despite a recent four-game losing streak, D1Baseball said this week that Clemson was still in their mix for a regional projection. Their pick, however, sends the Tigers to the Mississippi State (32-6 overall, 10 RPI) regional as of now. “In terms of teams in our 9-16 range at the midseason mark, only two are out as hosts this week — Clemson and Auburn,” D1Baseball analyzed. “Clemson was a strong consideration to remain a host this week, but simply put, other teams leaped them in the discussion. CU still has a strong ACC mark along with solid metrics (5-3 vs. Top 25, 10-5 vs. Top 50), so it could easily get right back in as a host soon.” Baseball America also has Clemson in contention but among teams with a slim margin of error. They send Lee’s group to East Carolina (26-10), which is currently rated 11th in the RPI. The Tigers rank 24th overall in RPI with a No. 23-rated strength of schedule
