has experienced a full year of sports over the past 12 months. This time last year he was preparing for his final season as Clemson’s quarterback, and he transitioned into a professional baseball player in the spring. The Rockies prospect, whose family lives in Evans, said his experiences have shown him that leaving Clemson for the minor leagues was the right decision. “I didn’t know if I had a future in football, and I wanted to find out,” Parker told the Denver Post. “It didn’t go well. At least I know now that I’m right at home in baseball.” Clemson suffered its first losing season since 1998, and Parker went into spring training still recovering from broken ribs he picked up on the football field. But the 21-year-old right fielder found success for the Single-A Asheville Tourists this summer, where he entered the final weekend of the season four RBI off the league lead with a .286 average and 21 home runs. He was named to the South Atlantic League’s postseason all-star team last week, as voted by the league’s managers, coaches, front office staff and media.
