Kelly Bryant named to 'Great 8' QB award

Clemson, S.C.—Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant has been named one of the eight players to the Davey O’Brien’s National Quarterback Award “Great 8 list for week three of the college football season.

Bryant was named the ACC Back of the Week for his performance at Louisville. The Clemson junior completed 22 of 32 passes for a career high 316 yards and a touchdown. He also had 26 yards rushing and two touchdowns, giving him a career high 342 yards of total offense and three touchdowns against the nation’s 14th ranked team.

Bryant was especially effective on third down as he completed 6-9 for 99 yards on third down. All six completions went for first downs.

Bryant, a native of Calhoun Falls, SC, is in his first year as a starter and already has two wins over top 15 teams on his resume. He is the only starting FBS quarterback to beat two top 15 teams already this year. He is the first Clemson quarterback to gain victory in his first two starts against ranked opponents since Tajh Boyd won his first three against top 25 teams in 2011.

Joining Bryan on the Great 8 List for Week Three are Luke Falk of Washington State, Riley Ferguson of Memphis, Nick Fitzgerald of Mississippi State, Alex Hornibrook of Wisconsin, Mason Rudolph of Oklahoma State, Nick Shimonek of Texas Tech and Logan Woodside of Toledo.
