Heisman path ranked for Clemson candidates |
Clemson's preseason Heisman candidates are judged to have a pretty tough route to NYC this December.
Bovada's latest odds this week have freshman 5-star QB Trevor Lawrence tied for the third-best odds nationally (+900) with Alabama sophomore QB Tua Tagovailoa, trailing running backs in Wisconsin's Jonathan Taylor (+750) and Stanford's Bryce Love (+800). Clemson returning starter and No. 1 QB on the depth chart, Kelly Bryant, is tied for 11th in Heisman odds (+2000) and running back Travis Etienne was also listed (+5500). FBSchedules ranked the top contenders' 2018 path to Manhattan, grouping Lawrence and Bryant together with the ninth-toughest schedule of the group. "The road to a first-ever Heisman for Clemson won’t be easy," FBSchedules writes. "First, the Tigers double-up, again, on non-conference Power opponents, this time adding a road trip to Texas A&M to their regular date with South Carolina. Though it must travel to Georgia Tech and Florida State, Clemson has the benefit of drawing Duke as its rotating opponent from the ACC-Coastal." Combining current odds and schedule, Wisconsin's Taylor could rack up the yards in a potential Playoff bid versus their 18th-ranked schedule on the list, avoiding Ohio State and Michigan State and not playing a Power 5 team out of conference. Alabama and Tagovailoa are right behind Clemson at No. 11 with common opponent Louisville to start the season in Orlando in addition to its typical SEC West tests.
