Four Tigers named to AP All-American teams |
Clemson tied Wisconsin for the most Associated Press preseason first-team All-American team members on Tuesday.
Defenders Clelin Ferrell and Christian Wilkins led the way on defense and senior left tackle Mitch Hyatt was Clemson's representative on the offensive side. Junior defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence also earned second-team honors. Hyatt, Ferrell and Wilkins all were tabbed first-team All-Americans last season. Hyatt received the ACC's Jacobs Blocking Trophy as the conference's top offensive lineman, totaling 30 knockdowns over 13 games. Ferrell was a Ted Hendricks Award finalist (top DE) after tallying 18 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks. Wilkins won the Willis Award as the nation's best D-ineman and totaled 8.5 tackles loss, 4.5 sacks and 11 QB pressures. Lawrence played through injury to earn second-team All-American honors with three TFL and 2.5 sacks. In addition, the Wuerffel Trophy recently announced that Clemson offensive lineman Sean Pollard has been nominated for the Wuerffel Trophy, which annually honors the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement. Pollard created and coordinated the All Off for Cancer event in 2017 and 2018, raising more than $21,000 to provide funds and activities for pediatric oncology patients and their families. Pollard joins Wilkins as one of two members of Clemson's roster nominated for this year's award.
