Los Angeles Chargers receiver Artavis Scott was carted off the field with a right ankle injury during Thursday's contest against the 49ers.

Scott will undergo season-ending ankle surgery and was placed on the team's injured reserve over the weekend.

Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said that Scott would have earned a spot on the 53-man roster without the injury.

"He had earned a spot on this team and had done a great job. After this training camp, we know he can play."

During the preseason, he was impressive with eight catches with 82 receiving yards. He spent his rookie season on the team's practice squad after not being drafted in 2017.

He was an All-ACC wide receiver each of his three seasons at Clemson and was the school's career leader with 245 receptions (fifth in ACC history) for 2,458 yards and 19 touchdowns in 1,981 snaps over 43 career games (36 starts). He caught a pass in 42 of 43 games and finished with a streak of 38 straight with at least one reception, setting a school-record streak. He is also fifth in Clemson history with 19 career receiving touchdowns.

In 2016, Scott was named Second-team All-ACC (media) and was second on the team with 76 receptions for 614 yards and five touchdowns in 709 snaps over 15 games (15 starts).
