Stephone Anthony will be placed on the New Orleans Saints injured reserve with a knee injury. Saints head coach Sean Payton confirmed the news on Tuesday during his press conference and consequentially the team has signed wide receiver Corey Fuller off of the Lions' practice squad to take Anthony's spot on the roster.
In 2016, Anthony started three games and finished the season with only 16 tackles. Anthony was projected to be the Saints' strongside linebacker this season after leading the Saints in tackles with 112 tackles and also forced two fumbles, a sack and had an interception and was named to the Professional Football Writers Association All-Rookie team for 2015. He started all 16 games last season and was the first Saints' rookie to reach 100 tackles since Ricky Jackson in 1981. He also made NFL history with being the first player ever to return a blocked extra point for two points. The Saints selected Anthony with the #31st overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. He had 330 tackles, 34.5 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, three interceptions for eight yards, 18 quarterback pressures, 13 pass breakups, five caused fumbles and one recovered fumble during his Clemson playing days. He also was named a consensus first-team All-ACC selection his senior season with 90 tackles.
