Clemson co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott spoke with the media following Thursday's practice and shared some roster news for the upcoming home opener against the Golden Flashes.
Elliott said that junior running back C.J. Fuller will get the start at running back against Kent State.
"It's going to be C.J. Fuller," Elliott said. "He finished up last season running second behind Wayne (Gallman). He also came through spring as the number one guy and he held his own during camp."
Fuller has 89 rushes for 382 yards and a rushing touchdown in his career.
Adam Choice and Tavien Feaster are still battling for second-team in this talented and deep position.
"The next guy is gonna be practice to practice, day-to-day until we get to the game," Elliott said. "Right now you got Choice and Feaster that are battling it out to be the second guy. I think all three are deserving of playing time. It's a much better position than in the past with depth with those three guys. All three are capable of having quality reps."
Junior tight end Milan Richard is getting the nod first at tight end during the home opener.
"Right now, Milan (Richard) is running that position," Elliott said. "He's solidified that but you got guys like Shadell Bell that is pushing every day to get more reps. You got Cannon (Smith), a veteran guy and you also have J.C. Chalk who has also shown some flashes. I think Milan will be the guy that runs out there throughout the course of the game."
Richard has one career catch for nine yards which was against South Carolina State last season.
Elliott also shared that offensive lineman Tremayne Anchrum is slighty ahead of Sean Pollard at right tackle and that wide receivers Amari Rodgers, Cornell Powell, and T.J. Chase could have roles early in the receiver rotation at the beginning of the season.
