Early Clemson bowl projections feature familiar opponents |
The
early rankings are in and conference preseason polls are around the corner.
A few media outlets are jumping ahead to the postseason for projections and there's a common theme. Sporting News released its bowl predictions this week and they see the Tigers making a return to the title game against Alabama, by way of a Cotton Bowl win over Ohio State in the Playoff Semifinals. Clemson hasn't appeared in the Cotton Bowl since the 1939 season and a 6-3 win over Boston College. While a regular-season matchup may be on its way in the 2020s, 247Sports is calling for the next installment in the Clemson-Georgia rivalry in Dallas this December. They also project a Clemson-Alabama title game in Santa Clara, California come January 2019. College Football News predicts a Clemson-Georgia matchup in the Orange Bowl and a Clemson-Alabama championship. Other ACC picks include two projections for Miami to the Peach Bowl and Florida State pegged for the Belk Bowl in two projections as well. Non-conference opponent Texas A&M is picked for the Texas Bowl by all three (fifth-best non-NY6 Bowl in the SEC pecking order) and South Carolina is projected as high as the Citrus Bowl (best non-NY6 bowl in SEC pecking order).
