Deshaun Watson set to undergo knee surgery |
Deshaun Watson’s next road back from recovering from a major injury starts Wednesday.
The former Clemson quarterback and NFL rookie sensation is set to undergo surgery on his right knee Wednesday, less than a week removed from tearing his ACL and MCL in practice last Thursday to end his season. According to the Houston Chronicle, Watson will have the surgery done by Texans team doctor, Dr. Walter Lowe, who is known as “one of the preeminent knee surgeons in the medical industry.” Watson took AFC offensive player of the month honors in October with 16 passing touchdowns. He assumed starting duties halfway through the season opener and went into last weekend tied for the league lead in touchdown passes (19). Multiple reports cite the Texans looking for Watson to be back and ready to practice within 8-9 months, following the path of his speedy return to football activities at Clemson. Watson suffered a torn ACL in his left knee while with the Tigers in 2014, but recovered to return and go 28-2 with two national championship game appearances and a national title in his career. "Look, he’s injured right now, but he’s going to be fine," Texans coach Bill O'Brien told reporters recently. "He’s a very spiritual young man. He’s just a great guy. He’s been through it before. He’s been through the rehab. I think once you’ve been through the rehab, it’s, not that it’s great, but it’s easier going through it the second time because you know what’s coming and you know what’s expected of you. I know that he’ll attack it and he’ll be ready next year.” Watson thanked former teammates, coaches and also fans on social media before starting the rehab process. "Today, the journey back seems far but I've been here before and will conquer it once again,” Watson said on Twitter. “I want to thank each and every one of my teammates for their unwavering support. My NFL brothers, thanks for all the prayers. To my fans, I cannot begin to express my gratitude for your relentless encouragement. To the countless others who have reached out, I am humbled and can only say thank you from the depths of my heart. “I play this game for you all, and I am grateful for the love you have shown me, not only over the past 24 hours but throughout this entire season."
