Deshaun Watson on Clemson's fan support: "It was awesome"

by - Assoc. Editor -

Former Clemson standout Deshaun Watson looked like a seasoned veteran in this first NFL preseason game with the Houston Texans on Wednesday night.

Watson finished the night going 15-for-25 passing for 179 yards with zero turnovers and had three rushes for 24 yards including an impressive 15-yard touchdown run.

During the game, the Clemson faithful had their orange clothes on in large numbers, cheered loud, and even did the school's cadence count after his touchdown run.

Watson was asked about the tremendous fan support that he received in his first professional action.

“It was awesome. To be able to have that support from the fan base, especially when I come back into the area,” Watson said. “I just want to thank all my fans and the people that support me. It was good. God works in mysterious ways. My first NFL game is close enough for my family to come see. Everybody came by and showed up.”

Watson is one of the most beloved Clemson athletes of all-time and I am sure that the Tiger faithful will be touring around the country to follow his journey with the Texans for years to come.

In addition to Watson, former Clemson wide receiver Nuk Hopkins thanked the Clemson fans for coming out in large numbers via his Twitter account.
