Cowherd on Deshaun Watson: "He was never overwhelmed"

Former Clemson standout Deshaun Watson had an impressive first NFL preseason game with the Houston Texans on Wednesday night. The rookie signal caller was 15-for-25 passing for 179 yards with zero turnovers and had three rushes for 24 yards including an impressive 15-yard touchdown run.

Fans and national media pundits were impressed with Watson's performance including Fox Sports personality Colin Cowherd.

"I watch Deshaun Watson last night – and I don’t care about his arm and I don’t care about his feet – he looked confident," Cowherd said on his radio show. "He was never overwhelmed. Even in failure, it looked like his job. And that’s a real thing. It’s the same thing I saw against Alabama. Even in the series he didn’t play well, he was never shaken."

Cowherd knows that Watson doesn't have the traditional prototypical size for a franchise quarterback but he likes Watson's confidence.

"Ask yourself this -- Deshaun Watson is only 6-2 and a half, 215," he said. "That is smaller than you like for a quarterback. NFL scouts want the 6-4, 225-region … Despite not being the ideal size, they never feel small. Aaron Rodgers is only 6-2 – he never feels small. Russell Wilson is 5-11 and a half – he feels big. Johnny Manziel is 5-11 and a half and he feels tiny. That’s physical confidence. I watched Deshaun Watson last night and I feel at his best, he can be in the NFL. A little bit of Dak. A little bit of Russell Wilson. A little Aaron Rodgers, although let’s slow down a little. He wasn’t overwhelmed and that’s a huge thing and you can spot it immediately."
