November 22, 2013 * Charleston, SC Charleston Classic – Second Round TEAM Clemson defeated Davidson 85-54 to move to 5-0 on the season Friday. With the win, the Tigers advance to the championship game to take on UMass on Sunday at 9 p.m. This is Clemson’s second appearance in the championship game of the Charleston Classic in as many chances. The Tigers defeated Temple in 2008 by a score of 76-72 to claim the inaugural event. The Tigers are 5-0 for the first time since the 2008-09 season. Friday’s game against UMass will be Clemson’s second meeting ever with the Minutemen. The two met in the Music City Tournament in Nashville, TN in 1984-85, a game Clemson won. Clemson moved to 5-0 all-time in the Charleston Classic with the win. The Tigers won the event in 2008 with victories over Hofstra, TCU and Temple. With Friday’s win, Clemson is now 6-0 all-time at TD Arena, the home venue for College of Charleston. The Tigers are 7-4 in regular season tournaments under Head Coach Brad Brownell. Clemson’s win was its second straight over a team that advanced to the 2013 NCAA Tournament. The Tigers knocked off Temple in the opening round Thursday. The Tigers’ two wins in the event have come against programs that combined for 50 wins last season. Clemson made 10-of-19 from three-point range Friday, the second time in five games the Tigers have made double digit totals from long distance. Clemson had just two games with 10 or more threes last season, so it has already matched its output through five games this season. The Tigers shot 61.1 percent Friday, their best figure since the 2012-13 season when Clemson shot 61.4 percent against The Citadel. Clemson’s 85 points were the most for the program since scoring 92 last season vs. The Citadel. Clemson’s two victories in the Charleston Classic have come against a former (Temple) and future (Davidson) member of the Atlantic 10. The Tigers will face a current member of the A-10 for the championship Sunday. Davidson shot over 40 percent Friday, the first team in five games to shoot at least that mark against Clemson. The Tigers still managed to hold the Wildcats 22 points below their season scoring average entering the game. INDIVIDUAL K.J. McDaniels scored a career-high 22 points Friday, 19 of which came in the opening half of play. McDaniels missed just one shot from the field and no free throws as he scored one more point than he did minutes played (21). McDaniels had one blocked shot Friday, extending his streak with at least one to 22 games dating to last season. He needs just four blocks to pass Raymond Sykes for 10th in the Clemson record books. Damarcus Harrison scored double figures for the third time in five games this season. He needs just two more double figure games to match his total from last season. Harrison scored a career-high 20 points Friday; his previous best was 19 last season against Virginia Tech in a home game. Harrison made multiple three-point goals for only the eighth time in 66 career games, spanning his career at both BYU and Clemson. Jaron Blossomgame made his first career three-pointer on Clemson’s opening possession. Blossomgame posted a season-best nine rebounds in Friday’s contest. He was also credited with a pair of blocked shots. Rod Hall scored double figures for the fourth time in five games, the best offensive streak of his career. He entered the 2013-14 season with just four career double figure scoring efforts in 62 career contests. Jordan Roper extended his streak of games with at least one three-point goal to 14. He made one of his two attempts. Austin Ajukwa scored a season-high seven points Friday, all in the latter stages of the blowout. Sidy Djitte set a season-high with 18 minutes played and matched a season-best with four rebounds.
