Cardinals release former Clemson RB

by - Assoc. Editor -

The Arizona Cardinals have waived former Clemson running back Andre Ellington and signed running back Bronson Hill to the practice squad on Monday.

Ellington was inactive on Sunday (7 touches in last three games) and only had 15 carries for 53 yards and a touchdown on the season. However, he showed his passing catching ability this season with 33 catches for 297 yards which is second on the team behind only Larry Fitzgerald.

Look for Ellington to be claimed on waivers as the 28-year old is healthy and will be able to contribute to a team that needs some depth at running back.

In 2016, Ellington had only 34 rushes for 96 yards and 12 catches for 85 yards. During his first two seasons in the NFL, he had 319 rushes for 1,312 yards and an impressive 85 receptions for 766 yards. In his NFL career, he has 398 rushes for 1,750 yards and ten rushing scores.

Ellington was drafted out of Clemson in the sixth round (#187th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft.
