CBS Sports projects recent rematch in Playoff picks |
CBS Sports released its
2018 College Football Playoff projections on Thursday featuring most of the usual suspects.
CBS prognosticator Jerry Palm sees another recent postseason rematch for Clemson in the Playoff semifinals, and if the seeds hold out, another one in Santa Clara's National Championship this January. Palm projects Clemson as a 2-seed facing 3-seed Ohio State in the Orange Bowl on Dec. 29 - meeting the winner between 1-seed Alabama and 4-seed Oklahoma in the Cotton. "Dabo Swinney has built a relatively new powerhouse at Clemson," Palm writes, "one that is now beginning to rival the one Nick Saban has built at Alabama. Clemson, my pick for the No. 2 seed in the CFP, figures to be a strong favorite again in the ACC and will be trying to make its fourth consecutive playoff. The Tigers have finished the regular season at No. 1 two of the last three years only to lose in the CFP to the Tide." Clemson and Ohio State last met in the 2016 Playoff, which resulted in a 31-0 Tigers win. Like that 2016 campaign, Swinney's group is looking to improve on a No. 2 preseason ranking in the Coaches Poll with a national-title run.
