Clear is enrolling at Illinois during the summer and will participate with the team at Camp Rantoul. He is the son of former Illini defensive back Sam Clear.

Brandon Clear visited the Illinois campus during the spring and watched the team practice. Because he has already graduated from Clemson, he can transfer and become immediately eligible.

Illinois recruited Clear as a high school senior at Hoover, Ala. But Clear signed at Clemson with his brother Byron.

After redshirting in 2007, Clear caught six passes for 137 yards his final three seasons with the Tigers.

As a high school senior, the 6-foot-5, 210 pounder had offers from Stanford, UCLA, Syracuse, Northwestern, North Carolina State and others. He made frequent appearances on the second season of MTV's "Two-A-Days," which featured the Hoover football team.
