Beasley first pitch headlines Braves' Clemson Night

by - Staff Writer -

Clemson night at SunTrust Park Tuesday was a washout due to thunderstorms, but not before some Tigers got in on the festivities around the scheduled Atlanta Braves-Texas Rangers game.

Former Clemson All-American defensive end Vic Beasley threw out what turned out to be the first and only pitch of the night.

The national championship trophy was on hand for fans to get a picture.

The Tiger mascot and Clemson cheerleaders added to the Clemson vibe as well.

Before the game's postponement to a Wednesday doubleheader, the Braves broadcast caught up with the former Atlanta Falcons first-round pick Beasley.

"It was a blessing. It's something I've always wanted to do," Beasley said of the first pitch. "Growing up an Atlanta Falcons and Braves fan, I finally made that dream come true.

"I didn't practice. I consider myself a natural," Beasley added with a smile, who was there on behalf of the Rally Foundation for childhood cancer research.

When the topic came around to the Falcons, Beasley said their goals are lofty.

"We want to be as good as we can be. We understand what happened last year," Beasley said, referencing the Super Bowl defeat to the New England Patriots. "We're going to try to get back there and win it this time. I feel good. I feel like last year is something to build off of (personally). Take it into consideration and build on it."
