ACC tied for most top-15 teams in Directors' Cup standings

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The ACC is tied for the lead among all conferences with four schools in the top 15 of the final 2017-18 Division I Learfield Directors’ Cup Standings, and 10 member institutions rank among the top 50.

Florida State leads all ACC schools with a No. 9 ranking, followed by Duke at No. 11, North Carolina at No. 13 and NC State at No. 15.

Virginia checks in at No. 21, followed by Notre Dame at No. 22, Virginia Tech at No. 28 and Louisville at No. 30.

This marks the 17th consecutive year that four or more ACC schools placed among the top 30 in the final rankings. North Carolina and Virginia are among two of only 12 schools nationally to rank in the top 30 of the final Directors’ Cup standings in each of the program’s 25 years of existence.

In the league’s 65-year history, ACC institutions have captured 154 team national championships and 317 individual NCAA titles. The past academic year saw four ACC teams claim national championships – Notre Dame in women’s basketball and fencing, Wake Forest in men’s tennis and Florida State in softball.

The ACC is the only conference to win national championships in football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball and baseball over the last four years.

The Learfield Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. The Learfield Directors Cup measures NCAA post-season competitive success and awards points in a maximum of 19 sports per school, four of which must be baseball, volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball.
