ACC Announces Women’s Hoops Conference Opponents

by -

The Atlantic Coast Conference announced the opponent matchups for league games as well as sites for the 2013-14 season on Wednesday. The format for the 16-game schedule is broken into three categories: six “Home Only” opponents, six “Away Only” opponents, and two “Rivals,” whom schools will play both at home and on the road.

New Head Coach Audra Smith will lead her first Clemson squad against one of the best leagues in the nation, playing seven 2013 NCAA Tournament participants in conference games alone.

Clemson’s “rivals” for the 2013-14 season will be Georgia Tech and Pittsburgh. The Lady Tigers will play at home against Florida State, Miami, Duke, Wake Forest, NC State, and Boston College. They’ll hit the road to play North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Syracuse, and Notre Dame.

Syracuse, Notre Dame, and Pittsburgh each will play in their first season as members of the ACC this season. Clemson holds a 4-2 all-time record against Pittsburgh, but is 0-1 against Syracuse and has never played Notre Dame. They’ll make the first trip in program history to Syracuse, NY and South Bend, IN this season. Clemson’s only meeting with Syracuse came in 2010-11 in the Bahamas, meaning they have never met on American soil.

Among home opponents, Florida State, Miami, and Duke each made the NCAA Tournament, while NC State advanced to the WNIT. Clemson earned victories against Wake Forest and Boston College a season ago.

The road schedule isn’t much friendlier, as they play tourney participants North Carolina, Maryland, Syracuse, and Notre Dame. The Tigers did go 3-0 against Virginia and Virginia Tech last season, including a win in Blacksburg.

The Lady Tigers are coming off a 9-21 season, which included a 5-13 mark in league play, and the No. 9 seed in the ACC Tournament.
