Tigers Set To Take The Field

Spot the !&*% ball! Okay, I may be getting ahead of myself as the Hill Watch is still on, but man it feels good to know the Tigers will be hitting the practice field on Friday.

Football season never really ends in Clemson, S.C., but Friday August 5th signifies the start of the 2005 football season for the Clemson Tigers. The Tigers continue to prepare to kickoff the most exciting home schedule Clemson has ever had. There are several things to be thankful for heading into fall practice.

First, the players deserve a lot of credit for staying out of the papers this summer. With 105 18-22 year old males, trouble is more often a matter of when instead of if. That was not the case for Clemson this summer, as the players kept their names out of the headlines. Now, the staff will wait for final grades to be in from summer school, but no one appears to be in trouble, yet another positive.

The lack of off-the-field distractions has allowed this team to focus on the upcoming season. Charlie Whitehurst, Tye Hill, Jamal Fudge, David Dunham, Chip Myrick, and Charles Bennett head up a senior class with good leadership skills. These are players, who have battled throughout their careers and have the full respect of their teammates.

Lastly, no players were injured in summer workouts. The Tigers are healthy and appear to only have a few bumps and bruises heading into practice. Defensive tackle Cory Groover gave everyone a scare, when he suffered a gunshot wound. Groover is expected to be back at full strength, but the lingering effects may be the only concern from an injury standpoint.

Practices will be closed to the public and the media once again, but here is a look at the Tigers practice schedule up to August 24th:
