Stats, Stats, Stats

I have always been a stat guy. I love statistics but understand that some mean nothing. In reviewing the 2003 Clemson football season I came across several that surprised me. Here are a six stats that may surprise you:

Tommy Bowden is ninth among the winningest active coaches.

Tommy Bowden has a better winning percentage than Lou Holtz.

Duane Coleman has not carried the ball more than 14 times in any game as a Tiger.

Chad Jasmin had only one 100-yard rushing game in his career (Peach Bowl last season).

In Clemson's four losses last year the Tigers rushed for 35 yards against Georgia, 10 yards against Maryland, 127 yards against NC State, and 62 yards against Wake Forest. In the Tigers nine wins they averaged 171.77 yards per game on the ground.

Clemson was favored in only three games last season (MTSU, UNC and Duke). The Tigers were underdogs in eight games (UGA, GT, MD, VA, NCSU, WF, FSU, SC, TN). There was no line on the Furman game.
