Special Teams Changes Come Sooner Than Later

by - Correspondent -

It was no secret Cole Chason was going to have to battle to maintain his job as the starting punter, but most believe that would come in August. On Monday, Coach Bowden stated that Chason was now listed as the co-starter with soccer player Mark Buchholz.

"He's a good kicker (Buccholz). He is getting more consistent as we get him more work," said Bowden.

This battle will come down to August, when incoming freshman Richard Jackson arrives on campus. The big question for Buchholz will be, if he will split time between the two sports in the fall. Clemson's soccer team was one game shy of reaching the National Championship game last season. The early indications are he will split time, if the opportunity is there.

Clemson averaged 29.4 yards in net punting last season, which left a lot of room for improvement. Apparently, Bowden has seen enough from Chason and is ready to move in another direction.
