Powell Paces Tigers To Victory

by - Correspondent -

Freshman Julius Powell scored 16 points to lead Clemson to a 96-88 victory over Penn State Tuesday night. It was key victory for Clemson and the ACC. The Tigers moved to 5-0 on the year and gave the ACC a big win in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

The Tigers delivered a knock out punch in the first half. Powell scored 13 of his 16 points in the first half. The true freshman hit three 3-pointers in the first half showing off his range from the outside.

The Tigers continued to get the job done defensively in the first half. They forced 14 turnovers and held the Nittany Lions to 30 points.

The Tigers would go in cruise control in the second half, and things almost got too close for comfort.

Penn State had cut the lead to six when Shawan Robinson hit two free throws to put the Tigers up 96-88. On the night the Tigers shot 61 percent from the line, but they used a strong shooting performance from the outside and opportunistic defense to earn the victory on the road.

The Tigers will face in-state rival South Carolina Saturday at 4 pm in Littlejohn Coliseum.
