Football

The Tigers held a half scrimmage on Wednesday. It was the first scrimmage of the spring, and was much anticipated by the players. The offense was able to move the ball well on the defense. Charlie Whitehurst and Will Proctor combined to throw three interceptions, but each were also able to connect on a big pass play.

Maybe the biggest surprise of the scrimmage was La'Donte Harris. Harris had the best day of the receivers. Also, Kelvin Grant had another good practice and continues to draw praise for his efforts in the classroom. Look for Harris to push Curtis Baham or Chansi Stuckey for a starting spot.

Still a big story is the progress of Olu Babalola. Babalola admittedly is just playing on instincts right now, but is eager to learn. The coaches seemed a little surprise by his aggressiveness in his first day of contact. Not to the surprise of anyone Courtney Vincent is playing well at bandit. To put it simply Vincent is a football player. You can put Vincent at any position, and he is going to give a 100% and make an impact. Vincent is quickly becoming known as one of the hardest working players on the team, and we look forward to watching his progress the remainder of the spring.

Clemson will hold its second scrimmage of the spring Saturday in Death Valley. The scrimmage is open to the media, but the scrimmage will be closed to the general public.

Coach Oliver Purnell and his staff are headed to St. Louis for the coaches convention and Final Four. The staff will return from St. Louis next Wednesday. Coach Kevin Nickelberry has agreed to sit down and discuss off-season plans for the team with us when he returns. We plan on doing a breakdown of what is expected of each returning player and incoming freshman for next season.
