What is your opinion of Chris Rumph?
This was a good hire for Clemson. Clemson hit home runs with Rob Spence, Vic Koenning, and Marion Hobby last year. Staff turnover has been the downfall of some programs that rose quickly, i.e. Maryland. Coach Bowden has done a very good job handling the turnover. Billy Napier will prove to be another home run in the near future. Rumph is a solid hire. I am not as familiar with Rumph at this stage as the other hires. While this may not be an exciting hire, I believe Bowden's recent success should give him the benefit of the doubt. Rumph has talent to work with on the line, and he should turn out to be a good recruiter. With Napier and Rumph, the staff has made an upgrade in terms of recruiters.
Will we host in the NIT?
If the team that showed up against Virginia shows up the rest of the season, Clemson would be in a very good position to host in the NIT. The Tigers are at 16 wins currently. It will be a tough game with Virginia Tech on Wednesday, but the Tigers will be favored at home against Georgia Tech. If somehow Clemson finds its way to 19 wins, then I think the Tigers could host all the way to New York.
What is the biggest concern at the start of spring practice?
The two glaring concerns would be cornerback, and who is going to play behind Proctor. Duane Coleman and Sergio Gilliam are the starters at corner going into the spring, but that could change soon. We believe Coleman will hold serve, but Gilliam could be in line for a position switch after the spring. Haydrian Lewis, Chris Chancellor, and Ray Ray McElrathbey are simply the more talented players. At quarterback, Cullen Harper holds the edge over Tribble Reese coming into the spring, but watch out for Reese. Reese and Harper are equals in talent, but Harper has been the more focused in the first two years. We have been told that Reese has turned the corner, and he is now more dedicated to football. It should be an interesting battle to watch.
