Much has been talked about with Clemson's away schedule this football season. Some say trips to Texas A&M, FSU, Miami and Virginia are the most difficult in school history. That can be debated and if you would like to debate it I think you have to start with two other seasons in Clemson history (1966 and 1974).

The 1966 Tigers went 6-4-1 but went 6-1 in the ACC and won the conference. Their road schedule was brutal. Clemson lost 13-12 to 9th ranked Georgia Tech in Atlanta. The Jackets went 9-2 and finished 8th in the country.

The following week Clemson went to Tuscaloosa to play fourth ranked Alabama and lost 26-0. The Crimson Tide went undefeated and finished the season ranked third.

Two weeks later Clemson went to Los Angeles to face fifth-ranked Southern Cal and lost 30-0. The Trojans finished the season 7-4 and were ranked 18th in the final poll.

The 1974 Tigers went 7-4 including a 6-0 record at home. But the road schedule was harsh. They opened the season in a 24-0 loss to 20th ranked Texas A&M. The Aggies went on to finish 8-3 and finished ranked 15th.

The next week they lost 31-10 to 15th-ranked NC State in Raleigh. The Wolfpack finished 9-2-1 and were ranked ninth in the country.

A 41-0 loss at a Maryland team in College Park came later that season. The Terps finished 8-4 and ranked 13th in the country.

The final loss of 1974 happened at Tennessee in Knoxville. The Vols won a controversial 29-28 game and went on to finish the season ranked 15th.

Clemson has faced other powers on the road like Oklahoma, Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Notre Dame but not in the same season like the 1966 and 1974 teams.
