Grant Dismissed From Team

Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden announced Tuesday morning that Bobby Williamson and Kwam Williams are academically ineligible for the Champs Sports Bowl versus Colorado. Also, Coach Bowden announced that he has dismissed junior wide receiver Kelvin Grant permanently.

"Bobby Williamson will not be going, and Kwam Williams is a academic casualty. I am going to dismiss Kelvin Grant for a violation of team rules. I came to the decision yesterday."

Clemson wide receivers coach Dabo Swinney was able to meet with the media shortly after practice. Swinney had always reached out to Grant in efforts to help him reach his potential.

"It is the head coach's decision. He make his decision based on an accumulation of things. I am sure it is something he has thought long and hard about. I hate it for Kelvin, and I feel bad for him. I will just try and help him anyway I can, and hopefully he will land on his feet. Coach Bowden let me know yesterday, and thats about it."

Swinney was unable to elaborate on details of Grant's situation, and he deferred to Coach Bowden.

"I just think it is an accumulation of things, but you would have to talk to Coach Bowden about that. As assistants, you just do what you are told and coach. It is a sad situation, but there is accountability for everybody. Hopefully, he will land on his feet and finish school, it is just unfortunate it will not be at Clemson University."

Grant appeared to be on the right track before he suffered a torn ACL midway through the season. Swinney hinted that the injury was very difficult for Grant to handle.

"Well, you look at it a lot of different ways. I know he was doing a great job for us this year. I know it was a tough blow for him, when he got injured. When you are injured, you still have to do things the right way."
