First Scrimmage Set For Thursday

by - Correspondent -

On Monday, the football team hit full pads for the first time this spring. Thus far Head Coach Tommy Bowden and his new coordinators have been pleased with the players efforts.

The coaches will get to see how the team responds in a half scrimmage on Thursday. The staff will be looking to develop the new systems and find the best 11. Here is what we are looking to see out of the scrimmage.

Charlie Whitehurst needs to continue and improve his timing with his receivers. The new patterns and formations give Whitehurst more freedom in the offense. As he adjusts to the system, keep an eye on how he develops with his receivers. Curtis Baham has stole the headlines thus far in the spring, along with Kelvin Grant.

Can Chris Clemons and Brandon Croley push Sergio Gilliam for a starting role? The scrimmages could very well be what decides this battle. All have played well, and now will have a chance to step up and make plays.

Those are two keys that we will have an eye on in the first scrimmage. We will have an update tomorrow night, following the scrimmage.
