With a high number of prospects in the Atlanta area, how much does a win against Georgia Tech help?

It would certainly not hurt. Especially, if the Tigers put together a performance like the last trip to Atlanta. However, Georgia Tech is not the school to beat in the state of Georgia. The University of Georgia still owns that state. Clemson can make a nice impression, but it will not be a big factor.

Were you surprised about the suspensions?

I completely understand not suspending both guards. The decision to not suspend Duane Coleman and Maurice Nelson is a little puzzling. Coleman and Nelson had not been logging a significant number of snaps, so I am unsure why their suspension was delayed. I know Coach Bowden did not want to take too many chances, but it was still surprising. In the big scheme, it will most likely be very insignificant. Clemson will miss Nathan Bennett, but Coleman and Nelson are not in a position to be big contributors this season.

What are feelings on the future of the defensive line?

The lines of scrimmage on both sides of the ball appear to have a bright future. Clemson has a talented young stable of defensive tackles in Dorrell Scott, Rashaad Jackson, Joch McKissic, and Antwon Murchison. Gaines Adams and Phillip Merling returns next year, and plus Ricky Sapp will come in. Next season’s front four could potentially be the best defensive line Coach Bowden has had. With another year under Marion Hobby, it would not surprise me if that was the case.

What are Clemson’s chances with CJ Spiller?

They are in it with him. Two weeks ago, I did not think they had a shot with him. Now, he is going to make the trip to Clemson for the FSU game. Anytime you get a player on campus, you definitely have a shot. In the end, I still believe it will be difficult for Clemson to land Spiller, not impossible but difficult.

Are you surprised the basketball team was predicted to finish 10th?

Not really surprised, but they are wrong. We are going to run a story on Monday, but this team is much better than 10th. How do you justify picking Maryland fourth? Clemson dominated Maryland all three games. After Duke and Boston College, there is not much separation between 3 and 10 in my opinion. The perception is the way Clemson played down the stretch last year was a fluke. This team is ready and will compete with anybody in the ACC this year.
