5 Thoughts On Tigers vs. Norfolk State

by - Correspondent -

1) Sharrod Ford is fastly becoming a dominant force on this basketball team. The ACC is clearly the toughest conference in the nation, but does not have many talented big men. If Ford can continue to be a force around the basket, this team could be in almost every game left on the schedule.

2) Olu Babalola missed tonight's game, but Akin Akingbala played extremely well in his absence. Akingbala had 16 points, and maybe his best offensive performance as a Tiger. Also, James Mays and Sam Perry played extremely well when in at power forward. Perry gives instant energy off the bench. Mays continues to improve and will become more polished as the season progresses.

3) Yes, Cliff Hammonds actually is a freshman. As well as Hammonds had played, it was expected that he would have some nights where his shot was a little off. After hitting 14 of his last 19 three pointers, Hammonds was 0-3 from beyond the arc. Hammonds finished the night with six points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals. So even though Hammonds struggled shooting the ball, he was still very active on the floor.

4) The Tigers was again held an opponent to less than 60 points. Norfolk State became the fourth opponent that failed to score sixty points against the Tigers. An opponent has yet to score 80 points on the Tigers this year. Coach Purnell has said all along he wanted to starting turning things around by defending and rebounding, the Tigers appear to be headed in the right direction.

5) Cheyenne Moore is still looking to find his confidence. It would have been nice for Moore to not have the week off for exams after hitting the game winner against South Carolina. Moore has tons of talent and is waiting to have his breakout game. If Moore finds his shot, several things could begin to open up for the offense. The Tigers will need Moore's offense, when they travel to Hawaii to face Alabama-Birmingham.
