Want Machines

Want Machines

Car companies do it.  So do airline companies and credit card companies.  Perhaps the best are toy manufacturers.  They all market to our weakness as what I call "want machines."

Little kids watch TV and commercials easily convince the children that they MUST have the latest useless piece of plastic because the one they got last week is now really useless.

We do it as adults too.  My buddy says men are great examples.  He says, "When we have a blonde we want a brunette and when we have a brunette we want a red head."

With the elections coming up we see it in our politics as well.  We want the other party in because of the current party isn't as good as they said they were going to be.

This is what is happening among many Clemson football fans too.  I was around for the glory years.  I saw Clemson completely dominate people with a great defense, solid special teams and a good running game.  The Tigers were winning ten games a year and winning Atlantic Coast Conference titles.  And you know what I heard in the stands?  "Throw the ball!" or "Open up the playbook!"

The past three years we have witnessed the most dominant offense in school history.  Chad MorrisChad Morris

where we played defense.  This ain't Clemson football."

We are in the middle of a throwback year in 2014.  The offense lost several of the best players in school history and has suffered multiple injuries, so the defense has been the story line.  The defense is ranked in the top 11 in almost every major category.  The defense is third in the country in total defense.  And you want to know what I hear in the stands?

got hurt.  But, it was hard to watch in the 1980s as well.  But like the 80s, Clemson is winning football games and that is all I care about.

If Clemson wants to hire Paul Johnson and run the option attack, I am fine with that.  If they want to hire Mike Leach and throw it 75 times a game I am fine with that.  If we win 3-2 or 63-62, I am fine with that.  I just want to win.  You will very seldom hear me complain about a win.  That is the goal and that is the bottom line.

I am a "want machine," but all I want is wins.
