Defense
Saturday's game will feature two of the best defenses in the ACC. In fact, both defenses rank very high in the national rankings. In terms of total defense, Clemson is ranked 6th and Boston College is 8th. In rushing defense, Clemson is 11th and BC is 9th. In first downs allowed, Clemson is 7th and BC is 15th. In terms of pass defense, Clemson is 17th and is BC 18th. In third down defense Clemson is 3rd and BC is 52nd. In terms of tackles for losses, Clemson is 2nd and BC is 50th. In yards per play, Clemson is 7th and BC is 41st and in red zone defense, Clemson is 6th and BC is 88th.
However, Clemson has averaged 35 points a game against Boston College for the three years

has been offensive coordinator. The Tigers averaged just 21 per game in the six games prior to that, or since Boston College joined the ACC in 2005.

became Clemson head coach. Clemson won 27-21 in Chestnut Hill in 2008 and 25-7 at Clemson in 2009. The 2008 win in Boston was Swinney’s first career win as a head coach.
Close Games
A mark of a good team is the ability to win close games. Clemson defeated Louisville 23-17 and the win gave the current Clemson seniors a 7-1 record in games decided by seven points or less. The only loss was the overtime loss at Florida State earlier this year.
Atmosphere
There will be a completely different atmosphere Saturday in Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill. Clemson has played in front of huge crowds in every game this season. In the Georgia game over 92,000 were in Athens. Over 81,000 saw Clemson beat SC State. There were over 82,000 in Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee and the past three home games have seen crowds of over 79,000, 78,000 and 81,000.
Meanwhile Boston College has had home crowds of 30,083 against Pitt, 41,832 versus Southern Cal, 28,676 against Maine and 33,632 for the Colorado State game. My guess is we will see about 35,000 Saturday
