Thursday Email Bag

Each Friday I publish your comments and answer your questions, but this week the Tigers play on Thursday so we will review the Wake Forest game on Friday. Therefore we moved the Friday Email Bag to Thursday this week.  To submit a comment or questions please email me at mickeyplyler@hotmail.com.

Dear Mickey,

I appreciate the optimism of your blog today, "They Always Remember November."  However, I want the coaches and players to just take it one game at a time.  On paper, Florida should not have beaten Georgia last Saturday, but they clobbered the Dawgs.  So, I am cautiously hopeful, but not optimistic about beating either GT or South Carolina.  It will definitely take a healthy Deshaun WatsonDeshaun Watson

, but it will help if we have a healthy offensive line that is able to finally block on a consistent basis.

Kindest Regards,

Kirk

Kirk,

I assure you the players and coaches are taking this thing one game at a time. As a fans we have the luxury of looking ahead without any ramifications.

I agree that the offensive line is a key. Thursday the Tigers will start Reid WebsterReid Webster

at guard. I am interested to see how this plays out.

Mickey, read your blog today and agree that a win is a win, no matter how ugly it is.  What I want to see from the team is consistency and living up to their potential.  When you have the repeated top recruiting classes, there comes a level of expectation.  I think we are achieving that expectation, but I want to see a more consistent product on the field.  I understand one player can make a difference in how a team plays, especially at the QB position, but this is a team sport, which is why coaches get paid. Don’t get me wrong, I am loving the defense and know they are the one going to bail us out.  Three years ago at Maryland the offense was bailing the defense out and   Dwayne AllenDwayne Allen

telling the team during that game they would score 80 if that is what it took to win?  In the 90’s and 2000’s, everything was mediocre and now it’s not.  I want what Dabo wants, consistency and the rest takes care of itself.

Stuart

Stuart,

This program has been very consistent. They have beaten the teams they are supposed to beat. Clemson has won 24 straight games against unranked teams. If anything, consistency has been a strong point of the Dabo era.

Now to your point, the offense has not played well without Deshaun Watson. However, I think if you take the best quarterback away, almost every team in the country would see a significant drop off. Also, the other injuries on offense have had an effect. But let's face it, the offensive line has struggled and the running game has been a disappointment. Without Watson the passing game is just as ineffective. Let's judge the offense when Watson returns.

Mickey,

I have seen you do this before but can you write a blog encouraging Tiger fans to go to away games? We need a big Clemson crowd in Winston-Salem and Atlanta. Thanks in advance. Go Tigers!

Bruce

Bruce,

I think Thursday nights are hard for visiting teams. I like the trip to Winston-Salem and will be there. Its an easy trip. Winston-Salem is about three hours from Clemson, 2 1/2 hours from Greenville and Columbia. It is a very short trip for the Tigers in Charlotte. Tickets are easy and many Tiger fans can take a half day off and get to Winston-Salem Thursday.

Atlanta is even easier. It will be a day game, so Clemson fans can go down and back in the same day. With Deshaun Watson back, I expect a huge Clemson crowd in Atlanta next weekend.

Great idea, Bruce. Thanks for bringing it up.
