Rebuilding?

This weekend I stuck my nose in the 2014 Phil Steele College Football Preview magazine.  For those that don't buy it or have not yet, it is by far the best of the preseason mags.

This year he is not very high on Clemson, especially on offense.  Steele said Clemson was the seventh most hurt team due to the NFL draft.

He has Clemson number 23 in his power poll and his rankings.

Steele does not have any offensive player in his individual draft eligible rankings on offense.  He lists 30 QBs, 30 RB, 40 WR, 5 FB, 20 TE, 20 C, 30 G and 30 T and not one Clemson draft eligible player is listed.

On his defense draft eligible rankings he has Vic BeasleyVic Beasley

as the number nine ILB.  Beasley is a first-team All-American.

In his unit rankings he does not list Clemson in his 45 QB units, RB units, WR units or OL units.  On defense he has Clemson with the nation's number two defensive line, the number 17 linebacker unit and the number 17 defensive back unit.  The Tigers are not listed among the top 45 special team units.

Steele says Clemson has the nation's 34th most difficult schedule this season.

He says Clemson is 22nd in terms of teams that have a chance to have a worse record this year than last.

Steele has Clemson as the nation's 113th most experienced team.

In his power rankings he lists Clemson as the third best team in the ACC behind Florida State and North Carolina.

In an interesting attempt, Steele projects stats for each team.  He says Clemson will: *rush for 154.7 yards per game which is 21 yards less than last year.

*pass for 280.8 yards per game which is 53 yards less than last year.

*score 30.8 points per game which is ten points per game less than last year.

*hold teams to 109,6 yards per game on the ground which is 45 yards less than last year.

*hold teams to 208 yards per game through the air which is seven more than last year.

*allow 20.5 points per game which is 1,7 less than last year.

He says Clemson will play Florida in the Belk Bowl.

Steele does not have any player on offense on the top three All-ACC teams.  He lists Wayne GallmanWayne Gallman
