Opponents’ Top Defensive Linemen

Clemson could field one of its best offensive lines in school history this season with four returning starters. However, the Tigers will have to play well up front to protect an inexperienced quarterback and Clemson will face several of the nation’s top defensive lines this season.

Phil Steele’s preseason magazine has Clemson with the nation’s number five offensive line and they will have to battle three top ten defensive lines and four of the top 12 in the country. He has NC State ranked third along the defensive line, FSU fifth, Auburn tenth and Boston College twelfth.

Harold Landry Boston College

Landry is the reason the Eagles are ranked this high at this position. He is coming off of an amazing season where he had 16.5 sacks and 51 tackles. Many of the preseason mags have Laundry as a first-team All-American. The 247.com website has him as the nation’s 11th best player.

Bradley Chubb NC State

The 247.com site has Chubb as the nation’s 14th overall player. As season ago he had 10.5 sacks and 58 tackles. Chubb plays with a terrific motor. He is relentless in his pursuit.

State has the luxury of having Kentavous Street on the opposite side of the line. Last season he had 5.5 sacks and 30 tackles. Justin Jones and BJ Hill give the Wolfpack four senior returning starters along its defensive front.

Josh Sweat FSU

FSU has traditionally fielded one of the nation’s best defensive lines and this year will be no different. Sweat suffered a major knee injury in high school but has recovered and is expected to dominate this season. The 247.com site ranks him as the country’s 56th overall player. Last season he recorded 4.5 sacks and 41 tackles.

Derrick Nnadi FSU

I love this interior star of the Seminoles’ defensive line. Few play as hard as Nnadi. The folks at 247.com rank him as the nation’s 37th overall player. He had 4.5 sacks and 49 tackles as a junior. Defensive end Brian Burns gives the Noles yet another top player. He is 247.com’s 134th overall player.

Marlon Davidson Auburn

Auburn lost Carl Lawson and Montravious Adams from last year’s front, but Davidson is the next star on the Plains. He is the country’s 108th overall player according to 247.com. Last year he had 2.5 sacks and 38 tackles, but Auburn expects big things from this former five-star prospect.
