Monday Email Bag

Each Friday I publish your comments and answer your questions, but I was in the mountains Friday with no Internet access, so we moved the blog back to today. Below is our Monday Email Bag.  To submit a comment or questions please email me at mickeyplyler@hotmail.com.

Mickey,

Hope you're doing well, Ryan also!

I moved from the upstate (Greenville) to the Charlotte area 3 years ago. I sure do miss the radio show(s), especially yours. I listened every morning on my way to work for years. Is there any current negotiations on expanding the area of your station? Also, what are your thoughts on our "best shot" recruits for 2016??

Thanks,

KO Tiger

KO Tiger,

The future of radio is on the internet and streaming. We have a ton of listeners in the Charlotte area through the smart phone apps. You can got to www.wccpfm.com to download.

As far as 2016, I think the best shots are Diondre Overton at wide receiver, John Simpson on the offensive line, Nyles Pickney on the defensive line and Tre Lamar at linebacker. I think Clemson leads on three of the four and if they can keep Lamar from Auburn they could sweep all four.

Mickey,

I read your blog today, "Playmakers."  I really think the Clemson offense, like so many other offenses, will live or die based upon its ability to run the ball and protect Watson.  If we cannot run the ball then it simply turns on the green light for opposing defenses to rush the QB or drop back into zone coverage or whatever works for them.  It is at that point when we will know whether Watson's blind side or any other part of the line of scrimmage is a problem.  Playmakers can only make plays if the offensive line plays well.  I hope Elliott and Scott sort all of this stuff out by the time we travel to Louisville.

All the Best,

Kirk

Kirk,

You are right on both accounts. Balance is very important on offense and the running game is extremely important. The best pass protection is balance. If the defensive ends have to respect the run then they slow their pass rush. I do think Mitch HyattMitch Hyatt

will be OK after a few games and I still expect Watson to have a monster year.

Mickey,

I am a loooong time listener, and your show is part of my daily ritual on my ride to work in Greenville from Reidville.

Great article and good point about discipline.  We need more fine leaders like Dabo. Don’t ever forget you are a great example too! The way you responded when Ryan had his accident is exemplary!  Like many people, I reflect on it often and it helps me be a better person.

ON the upcoming year. Before Ogundeko, Battle and Lakip (probable) leaving the program, I thought my Tigers would go 8-4, maybe 9-3 at best, considering losses on the D line and backers  in particular.  My rationale is FSU sure loss, too much talent gap, Ga.Tec, probable loss scheme talent etc, Notre Dame probable loss talent gap there too, and one loss to the schedule either Louisville on short turn around, or USC in Columbia Maybe surprise loss to the Pack in Raleigh.

Now that the kicking game takes such a hit, I’m thinking 7-6, or 8-4. Of course, if D Watson goes down, add a loss to two more.

Am I crazy? I would love to know what you think,,,

Thank you Mickey!

Warmest regards,

Bill

Bill,

You aren't crazy, just cautious. As we enter July, Clemson is favored in every regular season game this year. That doesn't mean the Tigers will win every game or be favored as the year progresses. But I don't see 7-6. I don't see 8-4. To me this was a 10-2 type of team last month and the questions at left tackle and kicker now might mean 9-3, but who knows at this point?
