Hey Mickey,

Hope you are well!

So great to see Monte Lee building a baseball program we can be proud of.  The kids battle on every pitch and look like they'd run through a brick wall for their coaches.

Just curious but it looks like the Tigers are wearing a cream colored home uniform for mid week games?  Kind of like the San Francisco Giants.  I've not made it to Doug Kingsmore but picked up on it watching the game online.

Maybe it's just the early evening sun light versus mid day making the difference?

TD

TD,

No, you are correct. This year they added a cream colored uniform for the mid-week games. I love them. Now I need some classic grays and some white with orange pinstripes.

Mickey, I have to say this season holds more angst for me than others.   We have recruited well and I trust the coaches.  The angst comes from uncertainty on the offensive side.  Other than a couple of skill positions, we don't have much experience coming back.  What I have seen from Kelly Bryant last year doesn't give me much comfort.  His instinct is to run first and that is hard to change.  Israel is too short and Zerrick needs to grow.  Dabo doesn't go to bed without a plan and I think he knows what he wants to do at QB.  My belief is Kelly starts, but is on a very short leash.  It would not surprise me one bit to see Hunter Johnson playing against Auburn.  Dabo has Trevor Lawrence in the wings, so why not take a chance with the young gun.  I know he will use the player that gives the team the best chance to win, but I have to believe he has a plan.

Stuart

Stuart,

We will not have this conversation next year because Trevor Lawrence will be here, but I would not be surprised to see all three quarterbacks play this year. This is the kind of team that may have to win differently than the last few teams. This may be a defense, running game and special teams season. However, that all changes with 2018 and Lawrence.

Mickey,

Monte Lee needs to that a serious look at his bullpen problems.  The relief pitchers look like they are pitching batting practice when they come in the game and get the ball over the plate.  Getting the ball over the plate seems to be a real challenge at times.  North Carolina got six hits in the eighth inning on Saturday.  Gilliam and Hennessy each faced two batters in that inning and neither recorded an out.

I believe it was a two hitter that Charlie Barnes took into the seventh inning Friday night against North Carolina, and he was tagged with the loss of the game.  Alex Eubanks pitched a great game on Saturday at North Carolina and got a no decision.  These two starting pitchers deserved a better outcome for their efforts.

Here is something Monte might consider doing to help with the problem.  Make Tyler Jackson your Sunday starter and move Pat Krall to the bullpen.  Krall has experience as a reliever, and Pat might have saved one or both of the games started by Barnes and Eubanks from being losses at North Carolina.

This move would create a mid-week hole to fill, but the weekend games are against conference teams and should be the top priority.  Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,

Jack

Jack,

I can assure you the staff meets for hours upon hours every day and discusses all options. They know they have bullpen issues and will try what they think is their best options. I like your idea and think we may see that in the post-season. I trust this staff though and whatever they come up will be a good plan.

Hi Mickey:

After reading the article about projecting salaries I was a bit shocked there was such a huge difference between Deshaun's projected salary and Trubisky's salary estimate. I understand collective bargaining and supply & demand but that is just ridiculous. I think Houston is a better fit but a $15+ million difference between 2 and 12 in the draft is outrageous.

Kindest Regards,

Kirk

Kirk,

Now you see why everyone wants to go as high as possible. I couldn't imagine playing for the Cleveland Browns, but $20 million could change my mind too. LOL.
