Mickey,

Under the conditions I was proud of how Clemson played versus Wake Forest. However, did you notice what ESPN wrote about our game? It seems that they were focused on the negatives rather than the positives. Their slant was puzzling to me. You can find it here. https://www.espn.com/blog/acc/post/_/id/96721/clemson-secures-acc-atlantic-division-but-again-looks-far-from-crisp Thanks!

David

David,

They must have been watching a different game than what I saw. In fact, I thought Michigan struggled at home against an Indiana team that Wake Forest beat. Obviously, Ohio State struggled more. But the national media must have different than you and me.

Hi Mickey,

I love your blog. What do you hear about Zerrick Cooper? Have you seen him practice any? I hear he has a great arm.

Thanks,

George

George,

I saw Cooper in the fall camp and loved his arm strength. He has worked on his accuracy this fall, and that should improve. This will be a big spring for Cooper. I think Cooper or Hunter Johnson will be the starting quarterback in 2017.

Mickey,

I enjoy our columns and appreciate your perspective on our Clemson Tigers.

There is no doubt Lamar Jackson is a phenomenal athlete and certainly one of the best in college football this season. But, Petrino's team has been merciless at keeping in starters (including Jackson) until the game ends and running up the score and padding the stats in the games he can.

With this in mind, is Jackson really producing better numbers than our Deshaun either this year or last year PER TIME PLAYED. Deshaun's stats, last year and this year, include many games when he didn't play much (if any) in the second half of some games, so even though Lamar's stats might be better for the games played, I wonder if he played comparable time, would the stats be any better?

For the record, Petrino is a poor sport for pounding lesser opponents into the ground. I suspect Florida State (on their dismal day) won't forget soon....

Georgia Tiger

Georgia Tiger,

I think Louisville's loss to Houston opened the door again. Jackson has had a couple of stumbles in the second half of the season. I still believe the Heisman candidates have a chance to make some statements in the next two weeks, but Jackson has to be the leader.

Mickey, great blog. I've noticed in fill in duty that Nick is in instead of Kelly. I was under the impression that Kelly was heir apparent to the QB job in 2017. If so, why no playing time when available? Should we read this as the position is open?

Thanks, Tom

Tom,

I was very high on Kelly in every step of his development. I thought he had taken big steps every semester. However, I haven't seen him take the next step this fall. He will get a fair shot in January, but my guess would be Cooper and Johnson have more arm talent, and in my opinion, they have a great shot at winning the job.
