Mickey,

I had a chance to read your blog today, "Weigh-Ins." I have to admit I was a bit concerned that Mitch HyattMitch Hyatt

, our starting freshman tackle, was still less than 300 lbs. He is about 6'6" so 285 just seems a bit light to stop a bull rush from the outside. I guess gaining 15 lbs since he arrived is an improvement, but I also believe he has got to tip the scales above 300 lbs to truly be effective. Technique matters a great deal, but it sure helps to also be a nimble 300-pounder.

Kindest Regards,

Kirk

Kirk,

First, Hyatt is not 6-6. They may list him there, but he is not 6-6. You have to remember that he is a true freshman. I am a little concerned about his strength, but we have to be patient with him because he will be a great one. Give him time. He will get bigger and stronger. Hyatt has the tools to develop into a star.

Mickey,

Give me one player no one has talked about. Give me a surprise. Thanks. Go Tigers!

Willie Tiger

Willie Tiger,

With all of the attention we put on recruiting and guys committing earlier and earlier, there is no such thing as a surprise anymore. We have radio shows, blogs and websites that cover these guys starting in the ninth grade. If you had to have one, maybe Taylor HearnTaylor Hearn

. I thought he had his best practice yesterday. He showed some size and toughness. I was encouraged by his development, but remember he is just a red-shirt freshman.

Mickey,

ESPN has their rankings of players in their top 100 of college football. Could you rank the Clemson players 1-85 like you did a few years ago?

Jay

Jay,

That blog was a disaster. Parents of the players ranked low in the blog called me for weeks. I will never give you 1-85 anymore. It's a no-win situation. How about a list of guys who have caught my eye in the first three practices:

Here are some of the guys that have stood out to me in watching the first three practices. This is not a depth chart, and it is not who is the best at the position. Instead, it is a list of guys who have caught my eye with a good play or a series of good plays in the first three days. He are 30 players who have stood out:

RB-Gallman

WR-Williams, Scott, Thompson, McCloud, Peake, Cain

DE-Lawson, Dodd, Yeargin, Bryant, Ferrell
