Mickey,

When one looks at the last 8-10 years I fail to see what is enthralling about Jack LeggettJack Leggett
Baseball Head Coach

and most important, his performance as HC of the Tiger baseball team. In the last 2 years I've seen repeatedly a lack of fundamental execution of ordinary baseball

skills and plays. In addition, the team statistics over the last several years have been poor to mediocre at best. What am I missing? Enlighten me please. This is a no brainer IMO. This IS a business after all and anyone who thinks differently needs an education in college sports in the 2000's!

James

James,

I completely agree. I tweeted after the regional that this appears to be an easy decision. This program was in a steady decline for nine years. This was not a two year issue. It was a nine year issue. Assistants have come and gone. Players have come and gone, but the program has been decaying. This one was easy.

Mickey,

I know we are all watching the situation around Jack right now but I was wondering if you have heard what the administration plans to do about finally protecting the Rock ? I have expressed my concern to the AD and president and I fear that they are taking it lightly . Enough is enough. Once it's gone it's gone . I can't imagine a Hill with no Howard's Rock or a replacement. I feel like they should really step up the security measures this time.

Thanks,

J. Busbee

J. Busbee,

I have not heard plans. However, I have not inquired. I will ask next week and hope to have some information then. Thanks for the reminder.

Mickey,

Thanks again for all your great coverage.  Always makes interesting and informative reading.   I read your article “Two Tales” and the one thing you didn’t mention is that the ACC has become much more competitive in the last 10 years.  UVA, UNC and others have developed their programs and now compete with Clemson.  Who would have thought that Louisville would come into the ACC and did what they did during the past year.  Just another factor but I too wish our program was doing much better and we have to do what will make our Tigers get back to where they were.  If we had another Dabo the answer would be easy. Hopefully we make the right decision. Go Tigers.

Cufan

Cufan,

I hate what I have seen this program turn into. The series record against South Carolina was down right embarrassing. The same can be said for North Carolina and Virginia, but South Carolina really hurts. The program doesn't have the same feel. The stadium and atmosphere doesn't feel the same. The players don't look the same. This program is a nub of who it used to be. Now the rebuilding process can begin.

Mickey,

I think Jack needs a change as much as Clemson needs a new coaching team.  The current situation is not good for either party.  People in all walks of life need career change from time to time;

Jack has earned our respect and deserves to be dismissed with dignity so he can find another team which I and other Clemson fans will pull for.

Archie

Archie,

I always thought Leggett would coach again. He is young enough to rebuild a program. But others close to him tell me that they would be surprised if he got back in the game.

Mickey,

The glass half full way of thinking says there is much pride in the Clemson Men's Golf team making the NCAA tournament this weekend and in the Baseball team making the NCAA field.    The glass half empty way of thinking is that with the exception of a couple of rounds, the Golf team was not good and even with a great comeback Saturday, the Baseball team stayed true to form and did not make the plays or pitches to be better than 2 and BBQ.

For me, the truth is that there are many, many schools that would love for their Golf and Baseball teams to make the NCAA tournaments and that is what we should celebrate.   Was the weekend great, maybe not today, but the important thing to remember is that the young men that represented Clemson can take pride in having done something that thousands of other student athletes did not have the chance to do and that is something they can always be proud of.

Andy

Andy,

I see your point and don't totally disagree. But standards are high here for a reason. A lot of teams would have loved to play a bowl game against South Florida in 2010. But Clemson football had higher standards. I don't think Larry Penley or Jack Leggett is just happy to be there.
