Mickey,

Hope you and Ryan are doing well. I still keep ya'll in my prayers.

You wrote a great blog on the best ever, and many feel our 2013 football team could end up being the best ever. That is obviously very difficult, and many things must fall into place, but we have had other teams that had a lot of hype going into the season who thought of themselves as being in the National Championship picture. My question to you is how does the hype this team is getting compare to what some of our other highly ranked teams received? I know the actual NC team did not get a lot of hype, because they were not ranked. However, I think the 1982 team must have got a lot of love, and I know many thought the teams in the late 80's had a real shot. I remember 2008 all too well, and that team fell apart, but they had a lot of hype going into the season. Just wondering how you think we stack up to those teams in terms of question marks, depth, talent, leadership, ect.

Hugh

Hugh,

Thanks for the kind words about Ryan. He is amazing.

Clemson usually has better seasons when pre-season expectations are lower. However, I don't think expectations will be low too often around here in the next few years.

The 1984 team had the highest expectations of any team in my lifetime. They got as high as number two in the country but went 7-4 on the season.

This year's team will get plenty of attention. There is more media exposure today then there was in 1984 across all of college football. If Clemson beats Georgia then the hype will get to another level.

This team has great leadership. Boyd is a true leader. There is talent here, especially on offense. This team will be much improved on defense but there are still question marks in the secondary. There are few question marks on this squad but the secondary is the biggest.

The offense could have another chance at breaking even more school records but this defense is not close to what the program enjoyed in some of the glory year's.

Mickey,

I know women's basketball is not a huge topic on your show, but who do you think Clemson might go after for their next coach? I really hate that Coach Coleman was not given more time to clean up the mess she inherited. Do you think they may go after a big name like Gail Goestenkors who is not coaching right now.

Lynn

Lynn,

I like Coach Coleman and her family but understand the decision. I don't know who the candidates will be but Goestenkors would be a big name. She had great teams at Duke and pretty good teams at Texas. She said she was tired when she resigned last season. Maybe she is rested now.

Mickey,

Women's basketball solution-Jim Davis.

Roger

Roger,

I would love it. Restore the tradition. I would be the happiest man in Clemson! The only basketball coach to win an ACC tournament title and he won two.

Mickey,

When will we start our new coaching search? Qualk keeps sticking up for the man because he stills some one and two stars that were recruited by some average mid majors. tell me what three and four star players we have missed on, none because we don't go after them. If you don't ask the pretty girl out you will be left with the ugly girl at closing time. We don't have to argue this year the CBI won't take us.

Trevor

Trevor,

I like Brownell but have to agree with you that they have to recruit better. It's easier said than done at Clemson in this sport.

Hi Mickey,

I'm a Clemson fan in Nashville, TN. I've never heard your radio show, but if you're discussing Clemson, I'm sure I would love it. Have you ever thought about presenting it in podcast form for us out-of-state fans? Streaming the radio online isn't really an option for me, but I love podcasts, even if I don't hear it until the next day.

Also, concerning future Clemson opponents in football, have you heard any news on the long-term scheduling front? I've noticed a growing trend of cross-country home & home series being set up by major schools across the country. Is Clemson trying to set up any fun series like that with any schools from the PAC12, BIG10, etc?

Thanks,

William

William,

We are looking into podcasting and I will let you know when we can get that started. Thanks for asking.

I think Clemson is waiting on the Notre Dame information to come from the ACC before they move forward in out of conference football scheduling. Conference expansion and the uncertainty has slowed down the process of out of conference football schedules. Hope this helps.
